Yard Dog Knives

Made in USA with Quality and Affordability

Olde Towne Cutlery builds their own brand of knives under two brands, Due South Knives and Yard Dog Knives. The Yard Dog brand holds a special place with the woodworking community. Olde Towne Cutlery processes all of their own handle material. This involves processing all of the exotic hardwoods into blocks and scales for knife handles and pre-sizing phenolic products such as Micarta and G-10. As woodworkers already know, these products are VERY hard on sawblades and will ruin carbide teeth. As a result, Olde Towne Cutlery uses a lot of saw blades.

Saw blade steel is of good quality for knifemaking. The steel is typically 5160 and has a hardness of around 56 Rockwell. The trick is to cut the profile without altering or damaging the heat treatment. A plasma-cutter is used to quickly and efficiently profile the blades, which are then ground individually. The handle material used is the “fall-off” from processing the phenolic products. Therefore 100% of the knife itself is RECYCLED!

After the bevels are ground, the steel is acid etched and stone tumbled for a quality working finish that is corrosion resistant. The handle material is epoxied to the tang for a permanent bond and the Yard Dog logo is engraved into the handle.

The knife is paired with a custom fitted, vegetable tanned, 7-8 oz, leather sheath made by JRE-Industries right here in the USA. These knives are Made in America, Built with Recycled Components, and all for an incredible value!
